Essay About Delicious Devil's Food Cake to Die For

Calling All Chocaholics

Imagine inserting your fork into a dark, moist chocolate cake topped with a chocolaty icing.

If you love chocolate, you’ll love this moist, devilishly good, devil’s food cake. The addition of coffee gives this cake a rich flavor.

This is one of my all-time favorite chocolate cakes and a cake I’ve made for years. If you like chocolaty and moist then this is a recipe you’ll definitely want to add to your stash of tried-and-trues.

This cake is easy to make and there’s enough batter for a standard 9×12 rectangular pan. You don’t have to melt chocolate, you use cocoa, but the flavor is so good and the texture so moist, people will figure this has been made using real chocolate squares. With its rich, chocolate icing, about the only thing truly challenging will be trying to stay out of it.

Done in One Bowl and Pretty Much Fail-Safe.

Delicious Devil’s Food Cake

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking soda

Stir dry ingredients together. Add:

  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup salad oil
  • 1 cup milk

Mix well, then add:

  • 1 cup strong hot coffee

Using a spatula, scrape cake batter into a greased and floured pan. I always double-pan, so slip a cookie sheet under to prevent an over-browned cake bottom.

Bake 325 degrees, reducing to 300 towards end of cooking time. Poke cake with a cake tester or toothpick to make sure middle is done.

Set your cake to cool and then ice with chocolate icing.

Rich and so Tempting…

Chocolate Icing

  1. Melt 4 tbsp. butter in saucepan.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 cup cocoa.
  3. Beat in 1-11/2 cups icing sugar.
  4. Add 1 tsp. vanilla.
  5. Add 2-4 tbsp, of milk to make frosting spreading consistency.

Use this frosting right away and spread over cooled cake. Make sure cake is completely cool. Frosting will set up, so do not leave it in pot.
